About

⭐ Honest review: Ho To Tai is a noodle shop that takes the craft seriously — they still make their noodles in-house, which is vanishingly rare. The 蝦子撈麵 (shrimp-roe dressed noodles) is the order: springy, chewy noodles tossed with dried shrimp roe, a bowl of clear broth on the side. No fuss, no gimmicks — just 80 years of noodle mastery.

A Michelin Bib Gourmand noodle institution in Yuen Long, hand-making its noodles since 1946. The signature is 蝦子撈麵 — noodles dressed with dried shrimp roe — plus the house wontons and traditional dry-tossed classics. It's out of the tourist zone, which is exactly why it's still this good.

Atmosphere

A proper old-school Yuen Long noodle shop: wooden stools, wall tiles, and a window where you can watch the noodles being made when the kitchen's in full swing. Unpretentious, efficient, and utterly local.

Recommended

  • 🍜 Shrimp-roe dressed noodles (蝦子撈麵) — HK$40–48. The signature — springy house-made noodles tossed with dried shrimp roe and a side of clear broth. This is why people travel to Yuen Long.
  • 🥟 Wonton noodles (雲吞麵) — HK$38–45. Plump, peppery wontons in a clean broth over the same house-made noodles.
  • 🍲 Braised beef brisket (柱侯牛腩) — HK$45. A rich, glossy brisket that holds its own against the Central heavyweights.

The side dishes are fine but forgettable — the noodles are the whole point. Skip the bottled drinks too.

Getting There

Take the MTR to Yuen Long Station, then the Light Rail (610/614/615) two stops toward Fau Tsoi Street, or walk ~10 minutes from the station. The shop is on the corner of Fau Tsoi Street. Taxi drivers know it as 好到底麵家 on 阜財街.

Why Locals Go

Yuen Long locals have grown up on these noodles — it's been the neighbourhood standard for three generations. On any weekday lunch, the room is packed with regulars who don't need a menu.

Why Tourists Choose This Place

Michelin Bib Gourmand put it on the map, and it's one of the few places you can still watch noodles being made by hand. For food travellers, it's the classic 'worth the trip out of the city' spot.

Why This Place Is For You

I come for the 蝦子撈麵 and stay for the window where they're rolling dough. Order the shrimp-roe noodles, slurp the broth, and remember what handmade actually tastes like. Worth the Light Rail ride, every time.

The Verdict

GO — Ho To Tai Noodle Shop is 好到底麵家 to the locals, and this is exactly the kind of place that keeps the city's food culture alive.
