About
Yung Kee has been roasting goose on Wellington Street since 1942, and the queues outside its own tower still say everything. Upstairs, the dining hall is grand old-Hong-Kong: round tables, banquet lighting, and the glass kitchen where roast birds hang in glossy rows.
The signature is the roast goose (燒鵝, siu ngo): lacquered mahogany skin, rich dark meat, worth every tourist dollar. Char siu, dim sum and the century egg with pickled ginger are all solid, and the goose-liver sausage is a cult item.
The caveats are real: prices have climbed hard, service can be brusque when the room is packed, and the lunch rush is a warzone — the 2013 scandal over mislabelled goose-liver sausages still lingers in the memory. But the goose itself remains consistently excellent.

Atmosphere
Old-money banquet hall: marble, gold trim, clattering dim sum trolleys, suited diners and tour groups side by side. Properly grand, properly busy.
Recommended
- Roast goose (燒鵝) — quarter or half — The reason to come: lacquered, crisp-skinned and juicy, best eaten with a squeeze of the plum-style sauce.
- Char siu (叉燒) — Caramelised, honey-glazed pork with charred edges — order it as a starter while the goose is being carved.
- Century egg with pickled ginger — Creamy, jet-black yolks cut with sharp ginger — a classic Yung Kee opener that surprises first-timers.
The set menus aimed at tour groups are poor value — go a la carte. Avoid Sunday lunch unless you enjoy a 40-minute queue; weekday early dinner is the sweet spot.
